Whistler’s short and meteoric rise to one of the world’s foremost winter destinations started with Alex and Myrtle Philip and the Rainbow Lodge. The small lodge’s cabins lines Alta lake and at the time were the second largest tourist destination in Canada West of Banff. They charged their guests only forty cents a night and some of the cabins are still standing in Rainbow park. If you have chosen the Whistler Centre neighbourhood to be yours, you will become a part of Whistler’s history.

In addition to its history, the Whistler Centre neighbourhood boasts one of Canada’s best golf courses. The Whistler Golf Course was designed by world famous golfer and golf course designer, Arnold Palmer. If you like his golf courses, you should try his lemonade-iced teas.
If you have a family and you’re planning on living in Whistler Centre, most of the real estate in the family friendly subdivisions are really very close to the village. Many of the homes in Whistler Centre are above the valley floor providing you with some of the most beautiful views of Whistler and Blackcomb as well as the valley and the golf course. It is truly a world class neighbourhood.
Brio is just south of the village and boasts the very impressive ski-in/ski-out Sunridge Plateau buildings as well as some really incredible single family homes that really make the place a neighbourhood.
Just North of Brio and along the golf course is the cheesily but aptly named Blueberry Hill. It was one of Whistler’s first luxury real estate subdivisions and really is a fantastic place to live. If you do not, however, want to live here year round, some of the properties in Blueberry Hill are designated for tourist accommodations allowing you to generate some income on the property if you want to rent it out weekly.
South of Brio is the area locals refer to as Alta Vista. Nestled on the shores of Alta Lake and right next to Wayside Park, this neighbourhood really gives you the feeling of Lake living mixed with park life and compliments them with what is probably the most beautiful background in the world.
There are all sorts of living arrangements here including townhomes, condos, single family dwellings and some of the most beautiful luxury chalets I have ever seen.
Also considered to be in Whistler Centre are the areas Whistler Cay Estates, Whistler Cay Heights, Tapley’s Farm and the famed Nesters neighbourhoods. They are geographically closer to Whistler Village than they are to the other areas mentioned above, but they are across the highway so that tends to make harder dividing lines. Nevertheless, these are some of the most beautiful living arrangements in Whistler. From luxury chalets to million dollar condos to breathtaking single-family homes, these areas have some of the best views and real estate in Whistler.
